Supporting Editor Responsibilities

Guest Editors

Guest Editors are responsible for managing Special Issues, encouraging colleagues in their research field to contribute. These Special Issues facilitate global collaboration among scholars. The primary responsibilities of Guest Editors include:

  • Crafting the title, aim, scope, summary, and keywords for the Special Issue.
  • Curating a list of potential contributors.
  • Pre-screening submissions, overseeing the peer-review process, and making final decisions on new submissions.
  • Promoting the Special Issue at conferences, on social media, and through other relevant channels.

 

Subject Editors

Subject Editors are appointed based on their research expertise to manage specific categories within the journals of CLS’s portfolio. They collaborate with the Editorial Boards to advance these categories and promote associated Topics. The key responsibilities of a Subject Editor include:

  • Developing strategies for Topics, generating ideas for promotion, and collaborating with institutions to establish new Topics.
  • Inviting esteemed scientists to participate as Subject Editors or lead Topics as Topic Editors.
  • Recruiting recognized scholars to submit relevant contributions.
  • Proposing themes, subjects, and suitable journals for new Topics.
  • Promoting Topics at conferences and via social media.
  • Participating in the Topics Award Committee to evaluate contributions to CLS Topics.

 

Topic Editors

Topic Editors oversee specific Topics and are encouraged to invite colleagues from related research fields to contribute. These Topics allow for interdisciplinary collaboration on a global scale. The primary responsibilities of Topic Editors include:

  • Defining the Topics' title, aim, scope, summary, and keywords.
  • Compiling a list of potential contributors.
  • Pre-screening submissions, supervising the peer-review process, and making decisions on new submissions within their Topics.
  • Promoting the Topics at conferences, on social media, and through other platforms.

 

Collection Editors

Collection Editors manage permanent Topical Collections and are encouraged to invite colleagues from their research field to contribute. The main duties of Collection Editors include:

  • Formulating the title, aim, scope, summary, and keywords for the Topical Collection.
  • Compiling a list of potential contributors periodically.
  • Overseeing the peer-review process and making decisions on new submissions within their Collection.
  • Promoting the Collection at conferences, on social media, and via other relevant platforms.

 

Topical Advisory Panel

The Topical Advisory Panel consists of experienced researchers who support the development of high-quality Special Issues or Topics. They collaborate closely with Guest Editors, Topic Editors, and Section Board Members to ensure successful Special Issues. The primary responsibilities of the Topical Advisory Panel include:

  • Regularly reviewing manuscripts.
  • Initiating at least one Special Issue (SI) within two years of appointment, encouraging collaborations with other researchers. The SI should be specific enough to attract focused submissions yet broad enough to form a cohesive collection.
  • Providing a comprehensive strategy for the SI, including assistance with its title, aim, scope, summary, and keywords, as well as soliciting papers and promoting the SI.
  • Offering support for SI/Topics related to their expertise when the Guest Editor(s) is unavailable, which includes SI promotion and advising on scientific matters.
  • Promoting the journal at conferences, on social media, and through other channels, and participating in the promotion of high-quality papers in collaboration with the Editorial Board Members or the Editorial Office.

 

Early Career Editorial Board Members

Early Career Editorial Board Members are emerging scholars who bring fresh perspectives, energy, and intellectual diversity to the journal. Selected by the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board Members, they contribute to the journal’s long-term development. Their main responsibilities include:

  • Promoting the journal at academic conferences and among peers.
  • Selecting high-quality articles and preparing bilingual media content for promotion.
  • Reviewing at least four manuscripts annually.
  • Offering input on new initiatives for journal development.
  • Inviting submissions from leading scientists in their respective research fields, both locally and internationally.
