Types of Publications
Complete experimental details must be provided to ensure the reproducibility of results. Authors are required to include all experimental controls and make full datasets available whenever possible, as per the guidelines on Supplementary Materials and unpublished data references (i.e., CLS data policies are informed by TOP Guidelines).
Manuscripts submitted to Information should not have been previously published or be under consideration for publication elsewhere. The primary article types are outlined below, with a comprehensive list available on the journal’s website. Please note that not all article types are applicable across all disciplines.
- Article: These are original research papers that should present scientifically robust experiments and introduce a significant amount of new information. The manuscript must include the most up-to-date and relevant references in the field. The structure should comprise an Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, and optionally, a Conclusions section.
- Review: Reviews provide a thorough analysis of the existing literature in a particular field, identifying current gaps or challenges. They should be both critical and constructive, offering recommendations for future research. No new, unpublished data should be included. The structure typically includes an Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Relevant Sections, Discussion, Conclusions, and Future Directions.
- Scoping Review: This type of review follows a structure similar to that of a traditional review but focuses on mapping existing literature. Scoping reviews must adhere strictly to the PRISMA extension for scoping reviews checklist, which should be submitted as supplementary material during submission. Templates for the PRISMA flow diagram, available on the PRISMA website, should be included in the main text. Authors are strongly encouraged to register their detailed protocols in a public registry, such as the Open Science Framework or Inplasy, prior to data extraction. The Methods section must include a statement regarding adherence to PRISMA guidelines.
